You stand on the highest and largest mountain range on Mars. The densest valley network also formed on its slopes, which begin eight kilometres above the lowlands. Nearby igneous rocks suggest that volcanic heat might have melted ice somewhere. In the distance, a lava channel cuts across folds in a lava plateau.
