Northern Tharsis

A traveller arriving by spacecraft at the wrong time finds only a dust-filled globe on reaching orbit. Only the tops of these volcanoes rise above the dusty atmosphere. When the dust settles, the foot of Olympus Mons becomes visible, bounded by steep cliffs all around. The youngest lavas flowing down from above have already spread over these cliffs to the east and west.
