Henrik Hargitai reporting
We have set up a complete meteorological station (HUME, Hungarian Human Mars Expedition Meteorological Station) and a mobile temperature/humidity meter and data logger on the back side of the hab.
The mission’s first task was to erect the meteorological station, It
took 3 days (was planned to take one day), using in situ resources (long
galvanized steel (EMT) pipes and rocks).
The meteorological station data logger recorded all data non-stop,
the mini PC controlled Wi-Fi transmitter transmitted them every 5 minutes
to the hab and the internet: the data could be seen from our mission support
in Hungary, where it was recorded and analysed.
The meteorological station recorded the following data:
- temperature (in two levels, plus soil temperature in 4 levels, plus
soil surface temperature)
- humidity (in 3 levels)
- wind speed (in two levels)
- wind direction (in one level)
- global radiation
- radiation balance
- photosynthetic (VIS) radiation
- webcam transmitting 1 minute long moving images every 5 minutes
The station was powered by a battery and solar panel.
The station’s Mini PC’s software was once upgraded remotely from Hungary
because of power supply problems; after the upgrade it failed but after
several attempts it could be brought back to normal operation.
Current / latest measured meteorological data with figures and graphs
could be accessed from a website, which was updated regularly in Hungary.
