You are searching for traces of the ancient northern ocean. This is difficult, because the ocean has been dry for billions of years, just like the valleys of the rivers that once flowed into it. Part of the shoreline can never be uncovered: it lies peacefully beneath the thick lava layers of the two great volcanic rises that cover the surface.
