Prometheus Basin

Prometheus Basin

Origin of name:
Prometheus: greek mythological character
A név eredete:
Prométeuszról.

Geologic description and interpretation:
Promethei Lingula, the extension of the Planum Australe plateau, is dissected by canyon systems. [1].
Prometheus Basinis an impact basin partly buried under ice.
In the southern polar cap, the rim of the Promethei Rupes basin buried under the polar materials is likely to form a topographic divide[1]. Planum Australe buries part of Promethei Rupes, the edge of a. large impact basin.[2]
Geológiai leírás és magyarázat:
A Prometheus-medence az ősi becsapódási medence, melyet részben elfedett a rátelepülő jégsapka. A medence pereme a Promethei Rupes. Mérete alapján az Argírével és Hellassal összemérhető erejű becsapódás hozhatta létre.
